Top Wages for Workers in Indonesia: Which Jobs Dominated in 2024?

In the competitive job market, many are curious about the highest-paying jobs in Indonesia. With a growing economy, sectors like technology, finance, and energy often steal the spotlight for high-earning potential.

The Indonesian Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that as of August 2024, the average wage of Indonesian workers was IDR 3.27 million, a 2.81% increase from August 2023.

Online Tutoring Giant Shuts Down After Losing to ChatGPT

Technological advancements often bring significant changes across various sectors, including education. However, who would have thought that innovations like ChatGPT, designed to assist in learning, would severely impact the tutoring industry?

One online tutoring company in the United States, Chegg, has been forced to shut down due to being “outcompeted” by ChatGPT.

Chegg, established in 2006, had long been a source of information and tutoring services for students in the United States. However, the presence of ChatGPT posed a major challenge, leading over half a million subscribers to cancel their memberships.

Previously, Chegg customers paid around $19.95 USD (approximately IDR 314.536) per month for access to specific problem-solving answers and expert consultations.

Although Chegg incorporated AI into its platform, this effort was insufficient to prevent a decline in subscribers. This situation also significantly affected the company’s performance, with its stock price plummeting by 99 percent—from a peak of $113.51 USD (approximately IDR 1.7 million) per share in 2021 to just $1.86 USD (approximately IDR 29.315) per share.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang Discusses AI Over Street Food in Jakarta

Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia and one of the richest people in the world, was spotted dining at a street-side eatery in Blok M with Vikram Sinha, the CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, and journalist as well as Narasi founder, Najwa Shihab. Vikram shared the moment on his Instagram post, where he mentioned they were enjoying Indonesia’s iconic street food, gulai tikungan (commonly known as gultik — street-style gulai), while discussing the future of AI technology in Indonesia with Huang and Najwa.

They were seen dining near Jalan Mahakam in Blok M, right behind Blok M Plaza, amidst the bustling crowd of other visitors also enjoying the street food atmosphere.

Vikram also captured the lively dining experience of laughter and engaging discussions in his post. “Savoring the flavors of Indonesia’s street food – Gultik, while discussing the future of AI technology in Indonesia with Jensen Huang @nvidia and @najwashihab,” wrote Vikram in his caption.
